ETH smart contract Ponzi scheme

Smarts News provides no information on its website about who owns or runs the company.

Smarts News’ website domain (“smarts.news”) was privately registered on April 14th, 2020.

As always, if an MLM company is not openly upfront about who is running or owns it, think long and hard about joining and/or handing over any money.

Smarts News’ Compensation Plan

Smarts News affiliates invest USD equivalents of ethereum on the promise of advertised returns.

  • invest $100 and receive a $120 ROI over 90 days
  • invest $500 and receive $650 over 90 days
  • invest $1000 and receive $1400 over 90 days
  • invest $5000 and receive $7386 over 100 days
  • invest $10,000 and receive $15,550 over 110 days
  • invest $20,000 and receive $34,210 over 130 days

Referral Commissions

Smarts News pays referral commissions via a unilevel compensation structure.

A unilevel compensation structure places an affiliate at the top of a unilevel team, with every personally recruited affiliate placed directly under them (level 1):

If any level 1 affiliates recruit new affiliates, they are placed on level 2 of the original affiliate’s unilevel team.

If any level 2 affiliates recruit new affiliates, they are placed on level 3 and so on and so forth down a theoretical infinite number of levels.

Smarts News caps payable unilevel team levels at ten.

Referral commissions are paid as a percentage of funds invested across these twenty levels as follows:

  • level 1 (personally recruited affiliates) – 7%
  • level 2 – 4%
  • level 3 – 2%
  • levels 4 to 10 – 1%

Rank Achievement Bonuses

Smarts News rewards affiliates with a one-time bonus for achieving the following qualification criteria:

  • Sapphire (personally recruit and maintain two affiliates and generate $15,000 in downline investment volume) – receive $200
  • Ruby (personally recruit two Sapphires and generate $45,000 in downline investment volume) – receive $500
  • Emerald (personally recruit two Rubies and generate $90,000 in downline investment volume) – receive $1000
  • Diamond 1 Star (personally recruit two Emeralds and generate $300,000 in downline investment volume) – receive $3000
  • Diamond 2 Stars (personally recruit two Diamond 1 Stars and generate $1,000,000 in downline investment volume) – receive $5000
  • Diamond 3 Stars (personally recruit two Diamond 2 Stars and generate $1,500,000 in downline investment volume) – receive $10,000

  • Diamond Ambassador (personally recruit two Diamond 5 Stars and generate $3,000,000 in downline investment volume) – receive $25,000

In order to count towards the above qualification criteria, recruited affiliates must have an active investment position.

Note that downline investment volume is counted across ten unilevel team levels.

Joining Smarts News

Smarts News affiliate membership is free.

Participation in the attached income opportunity however requires a $100 to $20,000 initial investment.

Continued participation in the income opportunity requires ongoing investment.

Note that while all amounts quoted in this review are in USD, Smarts Contracts solicits investment and pays returns in ethereum.

Conclusion

Smarts News is a smart contract Ponzi scheme.

New recruits invest and those funds are used to pay existing Smarts News affiliates advertised returns.

Of note is Smarts News’ attempt at pseudo-compliance:

We do not work or provide services in the United States of America, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic or the United Arab Emirates.

This is baloney, seeing as Brazil currently makes up 78% of traffic to Smarts News’ website (Alexa).

Venezuela is the only other notable source of traffic, coming at 22%.

What we learn from this is Smarts News is likely being run by someone within Brazil.

As with all MLM Ponzi schemes, once affiliate recruitment dies down so too will new investment.

This will starve Smarts News of ROI revenue, eventually prompting a collapse.

The math behind Ponzi schemes guarantees that when they collapse, the majority of participants lose money.
